The Need for a Confessing Movement

The Confessing Movement began in 1994 for the renewal and reform of The United Methodist Church. We all have a tendency to stray, to wander away from the Christian faith. This was true even in the first century church, which inspired much of the New Testament letters to be written. We need constant reminders of what and who we are about. We need to support each other in our faith, and hold each other accountable in our faith. Today, some within our United Methodist churches, conferences, boards, and seminaries tolerate and teach private versions of faith that, "strike at the root of Christianity" (John Wesley) rather than classical Christianity as found in Scripture and the doctrinal standards of the United Methodist Church. Our aim is to enable the United Methodist Church to retrieve its classical doctrinal identity and live it out as disciples of Jesus Christ.
