Welcome to the New England Conference Evangelical Renewal Fellowship (ERF)! We hope that you enjoy the information and links of our web site, and that you will join us in celebrating and glorifying Jesus Christ, who is the Son, Savior, and Lord. Yours in Christ, Rev. Tom Bentum, ERF Executive Coordinator The September 2008 Renewal Journal is now available online. This edition presents articles on: Making Evangelism A Priority: Getting Started; Taking Evangelism Personally; The Prayer Corner; and Social Justice Through the Eyes of Wesley. The recent books reviewed include: The Bible and Other Faiths, Christian Responsibility in a World of Religions; Only Human, Christian Reflections on the Journey Toward Wholeness; and The Divine Embrace, Recovering the Passionate Spiritual Life.
A recent survey has found that Americans have a “non-dogmatic approach to faith.” In fact, 70 percent of Americans who claim affiliation to a religious body—including Christians—agreed that “many religions can lead to eternal life.” Nearly the same percentage said that “there’s more than one true way to interpret the teachings of my religion.” For a discussion of these findings and their implications, see the Breakpoint commentary entitled, "Sweet Land of Tolerance".
For three reasons why sharing your faith shouldn't be so scary, see The Mission Society article "Uncomplicating Evangelism".
A new book, "I Once Was Lost" has wisdom for those trying to reach young skeptics. See the Christianity Today review "The Five Steps of Getting Un-Lost".
The ERF submitted resolution, "Resolution 212" regarding "Making Evangelism a Priority" was passed by the New England Annual Conference after some “friendly amendments were made and accepted.
Upcoming Events: The ERF executive team meeting will be on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Exeter United Methodist Church, Exeter, NH.
