At the recent New England Annual Conference, Coordinator Rev. Tom Bentum was elected an alternate to the upcoming Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference. In his biography, he has made it very clear what he stands for and stressed his desire to fill the need for more theological diversity in the New England Annual Conference.. We urge you all to pray regularly for the upcoming General, Annual, and Jurisdictional Conferences. A suggested prayer is provided to help focus your thoughts for success at these conferences.

Many times as Christians, we lose sight of this central mandate of our Savior Jesus Christ. We question how we as individuals can impact the world and bring glory to God. We forget that God’s mission field is not only in Sudan, but also in our homes, neighborhoods, and the corner grocery store. Each one of us can make a difference in our own sphere of influence. See "Why Not?"
Good News endorses the recent Judicial Council ruling for its clear restatement of the fact that local churches and ministries that identify themselves as “Reconciling Congregations” are being disobedient to the order and discipline of The United Methodist Church and engaging in actions that are “divisive and destructive to the life of the church.” See "Judicial Council ruling preserve church unity."
A new strategic plan for mission focuses on everything from streamlining the agency’s operations to tailoring missionary placements to reflect new global realities and expanding mission partnerships. Such partnerships even include other mission agencies that might have been considered competitors in the past. See "Looking ahead to future mission trends."
According to the recommendations of the Call to Action Committee, the so-called “bureaucracy” of the church would be reduced sharply, both in numbers and in payroll. They would fold most boards and agencies into five offices: Congregational Vitality, Leadership Excellence, Missional Engagement, Justice and Reconciliation, and Shared Services.See "Examining the proposals for Change."
You can learn a lot from reading just one sentence. Consider the first of the United Methodist baptismal vows: “Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin?” If you read it quickly, you might think this is a basic promise to “be good,” stated in three different ways, but it’s not. There’s a lot of information packed into this one question. See "Baptismal vows and spiritual warfare."
Most of us love our pastors and want the best for them. Find out how to bring your pastor daily encouragement.See "Ministering to Ministers."
